Last summer we introduced you to the 2016 St. Jude Dream Home – and shared how industry thought leaders from Stephen Alexander Homes and Susan Wilson Interiors executed a perfectly warm and inviting home with coastal flair to benefit St. Jude’s Research Hospital.

Today, we’re excited to take you through a tour of another project – East Beach – that features both of their talents in achieving upscale coastal design for a community built in the tradition of Atlantic Coastal Villages.

The attention to detail in the architectural style is what sets East Beach apart. These newly constructed townhomes reflect traditional classic detail and sit right on the Chesapeake Bay.

Catering mostly to upscale clients who have downsized or retired, Susan sought to define individual spaces within the main living area, while also bringing historical Nantucket coastal flavor to the interior design.

For the kitchen, shiplap was specified for the back of the kitchen island, Fresnel pendants “that add a nostalgic touch,” as well as glass tile from Daltile for the backsplash. The end result is a clean, sophisticated environment with a relaxed attitude. Perfectly coastal in every way.

For the dining room, Susan added an oversized fixture from Progress Lighting’s Orbitz collection over the table to help draw a visitor’s eye in the space.

“When you enter the room, you face a beautiful chandelier and immediately know what room you are in. It’s important to create continuity and enhance a flow through the space,” she said.

As Susan states, “it’s all in the little details.” This is evident from the signature look she has executed through the home. For the powder room, Susan custom ordered a signature sign from The Signature Swag on Etsy!

After researching The Old Man and the Sea, she ordered a wood sign that features a handwritten quote from the classic novel. (Madison bath and vanity featured over the circular mirror.)

“Coastal can go any kind of way. I selected Dazzle in the master bath, because it gave a little elegance to what I was looking for. It’s not traditional and complemented the modern feel of the quartz tops well.”

So how do Stephen of Stephen Alexander Homes and Susan work so well together to create beautiful homes like the St. Jude Dream Home and East Beach townhomes?

“Stephen is passionate about historical details and flavors in a home and all things coastal. We’ve come a really long way in our collaborations. It’s really neat what we can accomplish together. I listen to what is important to him and work to design what best reflects the themes and features of his homes. I do this by incorporating nostalgic flavors in the décor. I think it makes the spaces memorable and relatable. I have to be able forecast the future homeowner… design his spaces so inviting that buyers don’t want to leave without buying the home.” she said.
