Homeowner trends from Home Accents Today & Apartment Therapy’s 2016 Consumer Survey

Baby Boomers are the most likely to hire an interior designer.

[/su_column] [/su_row] [su_row] [su_column size=”1/1″] Homeowners from the Baby Boomer generation (ages 52-70) are the most likely to hire a designer for their home, with a ratio of ¼ from respondents of this age group using a professional. In comparison, the survey data shows only 16% of Generation X (ages 36-51) and 4% of Millennials (ages 18-35) have used a designer. Six out of ten respondents say they were happy with their experience of hiring an expert.

Living rooms are the main focus of redecorating.

Although a unanimous top choice among readers in all parts of the United States, this comes as a surprise considering the industry’s constant focus on kitchen remodels. The report shows that homeowners first focus on furniture and rugs before adding side tables, lamps and other décor.

Home renovators and remodelers keep lighting a top priority.

According to an annual Houzz & Home survey, today’s homeowners are allotting larger budgets for kitchen and bathroom updates, with the average spend increasing by 12% each year. The report shows that most remodels include new light fixtures, keeping lighting a priority in the home.
